When a directionless young woman discovers she’s descended from a hidden race of elves, she has just weeks to choose between the life she knows and The People her family abandoned a century ago.
Twenty-four-year-old Aisling Alloway has spent a year and a half in New York and is still exactly where she started. So when she tells a stranger in a pub that his pointy ears make him look like a blond Spock, she’s not expecting him to tell her that if she can see his ears, then she's an elf, too. Aisling laughs in his face, but can’t stop thinking about elves, and loses her job for it. Then the wind and the birds start to respond to her at the worst possible moments, and she’s drawn into a hidden elven world of elemental magic and remarkable cities.
But Aisling soon learns the elves are divided, and in three weeks, they’ll vote on whether to reveal themselves to humanity. One faction wants to force humans to abandon their dependence on technology, while the other wants a slower, voluntary path to ecological restoration. When her mother delivers an ultimatum against elves, Aisling must decide which world she wants to belong to, and if she’s ready to take the irrevocable oath.

By day, the Maiden is a statue hidden at the heart of an English country estate’s hedge maze. By night, she wanders the grounds alone beneath the same shell of stone, her basket as empty as her memories. In the summer of 1914, flowers planted in that empty basket finally awaken fragments of her past. But each recovered memory causes fissures to spread across her stone covering.
As the danger of exposure grows, the Great War brings convalescing soldiers to the estate. Among them is Matty, a one-armed former estate gardener carrying his own wounds. Though her solitude is shattered, Matty is the first person in centuries to truly see her. As her stone shell continues to crack, Oriana, the woman who was once a wife, a mother, and a cheesemaker, must choose whether to remain safely hidden or risk everything for a love and a life she thought she'd lost forever.
